Father Patrick In When The Devil Comes Knocking Page 2
Nathaniel responds, “While we’re on the subject, why does the Dark Lord insist on a candidate that’s pure? I mean don’t get me wrong, to each their own. But Michael, just between me and you, I would much rather have a woman who has been around the block if you know what I mean. Than to have one who has no experience.
Michael says, “You’re not getting the picture here Nathaniel. You see,” Michael continues saying, “to the Master, purity is enticing to the master. A woman who is pure then taken and defiled, oh my how that excites the master, he literally craves purity.”
Michael goes on, “Anything that blemishes one of God’s creations thrills the Master to no end. And knowing his demon seed germinates inside a pure vessel, well that’s just icing on the cake for the master. Then when she brings forth his child, he
rejoices even more. And that’s when our service to him really pays off, and the rewards are bountiful. And the master gains another servant when the child matures.”
Continuing, Michael says, “In this way we keep his blood line going. Then as old coven members eventually pass, the young coven members take their rightful place. And in turn for serving him, we prosper.”
Nathaniel replies, “I guess I never really thought of it from that point of view. So the seduction is what it’s all about to the Master?”
Michael says, “That and the gratification of knowing he’s slung mud in the face of God, every time the Master defiles yet another one of God’s children. It’s the filth the Master feeds off of. It’s mostly the thrill of knowing he’s taken something pure and defiled it in the face of God almighty. The master hates God, and enjoys corrupting anything that’s pure or innocent.”
Michael continues, “Of course there are those candidates chosen by the Master for mating, and there are those chosen for blood sacrifice. That’s where the coven comes in, for us to continue to prosper we must offer him a blood sacrifice when ever he calls for one, always on the night of a new moon.”
Nathaniel says, “Now I’m beginning to understand more what our religion is all about, self gratification, and power.”
Michael responds, “You’re learning, you’re doing fine Nathaniel just give yourself time.”
Meanwhile across town the dismissal bell rings at Salem High School, as the students begin pouring out the front doors heading for the parking lot. The lower classmen head to awaiting parents in their cars as the juniors and seniors head for their own
cars. Slowly the parking lot begins clearing out.
Chapter 6
Across the street the sheriff and his deputy set in their squad car watching the teens as they head off to enjoy the rest of the day. Ben turns to his deputy and says, “Well Chance, I guess that’s about it, we might as well head back to the office. Danny Baker will be coming over to pick up our squad car for a tune up and oil change.”
Chance starts the squad car and says, “You bet sheriff.” As he pulls out onto the black top and heads back to the sheriff’s office.
Later as the sheriff and his deputy arrive back at the office, they spot Herbs wrecker parked in the lot. Shutting off the squad car, the sheriff and his deputy walk towards the wrecker. Herb rolls down his driver’s side window as the sheriff approaches. He says, “Well son, I brought Dan over to pick up your squad car, for the tune up and oil change, what about the other one?”
Ben replies, “Oh dad, I’ll have you pick it up tomorrow morning, that way our new deputy will have it to use for night patrols.”
Herb responds, “You mean you finally filled the night shift position?”
Ben responds, “Sure did, a young man stopped by yesterday and applied for the position. His back ground check came back clean, so he starts tonight on graveyard shift. Not only that dad, had he told me had he preferred the night shift on top of it.”
Herb replies, “Well son that’s great! At least you won’t have to split that night shift with Chance anymore.”
Chance steps up to Herb’s window and says, “Yeah Herb, the day shift is mine now officially.”
Herb responds, “Well good for you boy, you deserve it, you’ve been on the force now for quite some time. And the best part Herb says is you boys can have a day off now once in while, maybe my son and I can get some fishing in this summer.”
Ben responds, “Hey dad, I’m looking forward to that.”
Danny Baker meanwhile has slid behind the driver’s seat of the sheriff’s squad car, starting it he yells at Herb, “I’ll meet you back at the station old man.”
Herb yells back, “Who the hell are you calling old man you young ass punk, and I’ll get back to the station when I’m damn good and ready!” Danny just waves as he pulls away and turns onto the blacktop and heads back to the station.
Herb says, “Well son, I could stay and chat all day, but I’ve got to get back to the station, Danny’s liable to hurt himself. The boy’s not the brightest bulb in the box, if you know what I mean. But he is one hell of a mechanic though, I’ll hand him that.”
Ben responds, “Well he must be pretty bright then, just be glad you have him Pop. Good help is hard to find! Look how long it took me to find someone for the night shift.”
Herb says, “Yeah I guess your right, Danny’s a pretty good boy. We’ll drop off your car in the morning son, and then Danny can drive the other one back. We’ll give it a tune up and an oil change too. That way your new deputy will be good to go!”
Ben stands waving goodbye as his dad drives away in his wrecker honking his horn as he heads down the road.
Chapter 7
Up town the teens are making circles around the town square, yelling at each other out of their car windows as they circle the square. It was the local hangout for the town’s kids. There wasn’t much to do in town other than the drive in movie. Last year a wealthy businessman had decided to renovate the old drive in theater, and it had become a real hot spot for the local teens. The older generation seemed to like it as well, there was also the local Dog and Suds drive in restaurant. The café was mostly for the older crowd, so the local teens never hung out there much.
There was of course the local bowling alley, but you had to have proof of ID to drink a beer, be eighteen to purchase cigarettes for that matter. Of course there was the local shopping center with the local Save &Shop store, and Bill’s Bargain Barn, and Food Mart grocery store, as well as the Farm Supply store. Other than that there just was not much to do when you were a teen in Salem Springs, except for taking your sweetheart to look out point. Now there was a popular night spot for the local teens as you can imagine, seemed as though every town had one of those spots.
Most of the younger teens simply stayed home and played on the internet, face book, etc… email and text messaging were real popular in this day and age. But in a positive light, it kept a lot of the kids off the streets at night and out of trouble.
Something different was going on at the town square, there was a new booth displaying a New Internet sight for Teens. Behind the booth set Lilith. The teens circling the square soon take notice and start pulling in to park their cars. Four teen couples slowly make their way to the new stand. Reading the fliers displayed at
the booth, their interest now peaked they begin to inquire about the new dating site.
Lilith looks up at two of the teenage girls and asks, “Interested in the new date sight ladies?” Jody Cantrell and Angel Daniels blush a little, then nod their heads in agreement. Lilith responds, “Wonderful girls, I have a simple questionnaire for you to fill out, the usual questions.”
“Your ages first and for most as you must be at least seventeen years old to sign up for the dating site. Also your likes, and dislikes, what you’re looking for in a date as far as compatibility, are you sexually active? Of course,” Lilith continues, “these questions are strictly confidential. Rest assured none of this info will be displayed on the date sight without your complete consent.”
Lilith continues, “And you may of course omit any information you’
d rather not have displayed. That is entirely your decision of course girls. Also our site is strictly for members only! No non-members are allowed onto the sight. They must be signed in and registered as a member and they must have a secret password to log on. So see girls, you’re perfectly safe.”
Lilith continues, “And not only that, we run complete back ground checks on all members as well. So if something stands out we do not approve of involving a member, their membership will be of course canceled and their password will be deactivated immediately!”
By now three more couples are listening in, looking over the fliers displayed on the booth. Jody says, “Sounds great! Give me one of those questionnaires.”
The other girls respond, “Us too! We want to join.”
Their boyfriends standing nearby shout, “Hey, what about us girls, what are we, chopped liver?”
Rachel Smith holding a questionnaire turns and says, “Maybe we want some real men in our lives, not you little boys!” The other girls break out laughing.
Jose Miller replies, “Well Ms. Rachel, you can just walk your little ass home then. I’m out of here.” Jose turns and heads back to his car.
Rachel yells, “Jose, wait for me I was just kidding.” Then she turns to Lilith and asks, “Can I turn this questionnaire into you later?”
Lilith smiles and responds, “Oh absolutely my dear, that’ll be just fine. You other girls too of course! Fill them out, bring them to me later. Better yet, here’s my email address, just attach the questionnaire to an email and send them to me. See how easy that was girls? Your boyfriends don’t even have to know you signed up.”
Rachel and the other girls respond, “Oh thank you Lilith!” As they all turn and head back to the cars, having hid the questionnaires in their purses.
Lilith watches as the girls walk away. “Oh,” she says, “the Master will be very pleased indeed, I found him some fine specimens to choose from.”
Chapter 8
Back at the sheriff’s office it turns six o’clock; Chance turns in his shotgun locking it up in the gun case, as his shift comes to an end. The sheriff says, “Well Chance, I’ll see you in the morning.”
Chance responds, “Sure thing sheriff,” as he turns and heads out the door and walks towards his car. Not long after he pulls out of the parking lot and heads over to the diner, hoping to catch Angel, as she was getting off at the diner for the day.
As Chance pulls into the parking lot he spots Angel coming out of the diner and honks his horn. Angel, looking up sees Chance, smiling she slowly walks towards his car. Chance rolls down his window as Angel approaches. Angel walks up to his window bending down she says, “Hi, what are you up to?”
Chance says, “Hey, you changed clothes. Wow, you look really nice.” Chance then asks, “Would you want to go to the drive in theater tonight with me and watch a movie?”
Angel responds, “What’s showing?”
Chance, looking down at Angels mini skirt, smiles and says, “You are, and from what I’m seeing I say you’re looking really good.”
Angel blushes smiling she says, “No silly, I mean what’s showing at the drive in tonight?”
Chance responds, “Oh, ‘Night of the Living Dead’, the
newer version, suppose to be really scary stuff.”
Angel smiles and says, “Sure, sounds like fun, what time does it start?”
Chance says, “The first show starts at seven thirty.”
Angel smiles and says, “Can you pick me up at seven?”
Chance smiles all excited and says, “You bet, I’ll see you at seven.”
Angel smiles and says, “I’ll see you then.” Then she turns and walks towards her car.
Chance watches her walk away, “God she’s hot,” he says in a low tone of voice. Then slowly pulls out of the parking lot and heads for home.
Angel slides in behind the wheel of her car and starts the engine. As she pulls out onto the hard road she makes her way towards home. Suddenly she looks up and in the road ahead sees a woman standing looking under the hood of her car. Angel pulls over behind the vehicle. She gets out and walks towards the woman, recognizing her she says, “Hi looks like you’re having some car trouble.”
Lilith smiles and says, “Oh thank goodness, I was hoping someone would come along, and just in the neck of time. How did you know we’ve been waiting for you my dear?”
Angel, with a confused look on her face says, “What do you mean, we?” Then suddenly she feels a blow to her head as she passes out and falls to the road.
Standing looking down at her stood two black hooded
robed figures. Bending down they pick Angel up and place her into the trunk of Lilith’s car closing the trunk lid. Lilith walks over to them and says, “Now go before you’re seen.” The hooded figures turn and disappear into the timber along side of the road. Lilith closes the hood of her car and walks to the driver’s door opening it, she slides in behind the wheel starting her engine she slowly pulls away, leaving Angel’s car setting off on the side of the road.
Chapter 9
Meanwhile, back at the sheriff’s office, Doug enters as the sheriff looks up from his newspaper. “Hey Doug, all ready to start your night shift?”
“Hey sheriff, I’m ready.”
“Great,” the sheriff says, “there are some deputy shirts hanging over there, try one on for size, badge and gun belt is over there.” Doug, finding a shirt that fits, picks up his badge and pins it onto his shirt, grabbing the gun belt he straps it on, walking over to the gun cabinet he picks up a shot gun and a box of shells.
“Well,” the sheriff says, tossing him the squad car keys he says, “Welcome aboard Doug. Be careful out there tonight.”
Doug responds, “I will sheriff, thanks again.”
The sheriff responds, “Glad to have you aboard Doug.” Doug turns and heads out the door to the squad car, climbing in behind the wheel he starts the car and pulls out onto the hard road. Heading down the road he gets a call on his cell phone, he answers it. The voice on the other end begins speaking.
“Yes,” Doug says, “I understand, sounds good, don’t worry about a thing, I’ll take care of it,” and shuts off the phone. He turns his car around and heads to the outer city limits.
Meanwhile, across town, Chance pulls up to Angel’s house, shutting off his car he gets out and slowly walks to the door. Ringing the door bell it isn’t long before a teenage boy comes to
the door. The boy asks, “Are you looking for Angel?”
Chance responds, “Yes, is she home?”
The boy says, “Not yet, why, did you two have a date or something?”
Chance responds, “Yes, we were going to the drive in to watch the ‘Night of the Living Dead’.”
The boy speaks up, “Wow that’s awesome, and I heard that’s really a great flick man! Hey, if she’s a no show, care if I go watch it with you? I’m her brother Mike by the way.”
Chance responds, “Well I don’t know, she told me to pick her up at seven.”
Mike responds, “Maybe she had a flat tire or something, girls are so lame.”
Chance says, “Maybe, I think I’ll go look for her, nice talking to you Mike I’ll see you later.” As Chance turns and walks back to his car, sliding behind the wheel he starts the engine and pulls away.
Mike watching as chance drives off says, “Cool car dude,” as he closes the front door.
The next morning Chance walks into the sheriff’s office looking kind of pissed off. The sheriff smiles and asks, “Well what crawled up your ass this morning there deputy?”
